Every registered domain name has at least two Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your Internet domain to the servers of a certain hosting provider. This way, you've got both your site and your emails handled by the very same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there is a variety of other records, such as A and MX. The first one shows which server manages the website for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter indicates which server handles the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, any time you enter a domain in your Internet browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you will be forwarded to the servers of a different service provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your Internet domain. Having separate records for the site and the emails means that you can have your site and your emails with two different companies if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a cloud website hosting package through our company, you are going to be able to view, create and modify any A or MX record for your domain names. Provided that a given domain has our Name Servers, you are going to be able to to modify particular records through our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or e-mails pointed to another company if you wish to use only one of our services. Our innovative tool will even allow you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address in any way. If you choose to use the e-mail services of another service provider and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do it with just a few clicks through the DNS Records section of your CP. You can even set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, provided with our semi-dedicated hosting packages, will allow you to view the A and MX records for any of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if needed, to change any of them or set up new ones. Controlling these records is very easy since all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes a few more clicks and in case you experience any difficulties, you can check out our educational videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by individuals with little or no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to give you 100 % control of all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're switching your e-mails to a different service provider and they ask you to set up more than 2 different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
